*Louise Élisabeth Vigée Le Brun, also known as  Madame Le Brun, was a French painter who specialized in portrait painting in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Completely self-taught, she became an artist despite great obstacles (as was the case for any woman in late 18th century Paris). With the intervention of Marie Antoinette, she was admitted to the French Academy at the young age of 28 as one of only four female members.
